Fira one of the first companies in the construction industry to implement a study on pay equality

The purpose was to identify and address any unexplained differences in salaries.

The construction service company Fira has conducted a study on pay equality. The study was carried out by an external expert body independent of Fira. The purpose was to identify and address any unexplained differences in salaries.

Unexplained salary differences are differences that cannot be explained by factors such as job difficulty, performance level, experience or location. According to the study commissioned by Fira, the salaries of Fira personnel are mainly equal. Based on the study, an equality increase was given to 28 people (9% of Fira’s personnel). Of these people, 15 are women and 13 are men. A total of 310 people work at Fira in the Finnish Capital Region in supervisory tasks at construction sites and in expert tasks at the office.

Studying salary differences is the first step in correcting them

“People first” is one of the cornerstones of Fira’s strategy, and the wellbeing of the personnel and a safe and equal workplace belong to Fira’s main sustainability themes.

Equality means that the same salary is paid for the same work.

− Equality means that the same salary is paid for the same work. Studying salary differences is the first step in correcting them. It is important to us that we show through concrete actions that we want to promote equality in the construction and real estate sector. In future, we intend to annually monitor and assess the development of the salaries of our different personnel groups with respect to the difficulty of the work. We also plan to repeat the study on pay equality every two years, says Mervi Leikas, Director, People and Communications, Fira.
