Heat for homes with local energy

The modern and low‑emission Lounavoima plant in Salo was delivered using a construction management contract. The low‑emission facility produces heat for local homes by converting non‑recyclable municipal waste into local energy using a new grate‑firing technology.

Salo District Heating uses the energy produced at the plant for district heating. The plant’s environmental permit allows a capacity of 120,000 t/a, corresponding to approximately 44 MW. It generates 180–190 GWh of district heat per year for residents in Salo, and around 62 GWh of electricity for the national grid.

Lounavoima is owned by Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy and Salon Kaukolämpö Oy.
