Fira to build a DHL logistics centre in Sipoo

Fira Oy, a construction service company, and DHL, the global market leader in logistics, have signed an agreement to build a new logistics centre in Bastukärr in Sipoo, Finland. The total area of the centre will be around 44,000 square metres. This is one of the first sites in Finland aiming for the highest possible level of certification, “Outstanding”, within the BREEAM International New Construction 2016 environmental certification system. The construction work will begin in June.

Achieving the “Outstanding” level for the entire building within the BREEAM NC 2016 certification system sets strict requirements for energy efficiency, the environmental impacts of building materials and sustainable procurement, among other aspects. In addition, the goal is to achieve the WELL Core Gold level for the office facilities.

The construction of the new logistics centre will begin in June with the establishment of the construction site and earth moving work. The project will be handed over to DHL in two stages in September 2023 and February 2024. The solutions used in the project planning phase are based on the special expertise of Fira’s in-house solution development team and the operating models that the company has developed over the years.

Ramboll, JLL and Parviainen Arkkitehdit are serving as DHL’s consultants on the project.

In 2021, Fira built a warehouse building for Transvall, the logistics company of Posti, one of the leading delivery and fulfilment companies in Finland, Sweden and the Baltic countries. The Transvall logistics centre has a total area of 30,000 square metres and is located next to the future DHL logistics centre in Bastukärr in Sipoo. In late 2021, Fira entered into an agreement on the construction of a warehouse building (55,000 square metres) for Tokmanni, Finland’s leading variety discount retailer.
