Fira is starting the construction of Puistola School, a daycare center, and a sports hall in Helsinki

The old Puistola comprehensive school will be replaced with a new building of over 12,000 gross square meters, offering healthy and safe spaces for versatile use.

The new building will house Puistola Comprehensive School, daycare center Nurkka, daycare center Aurinkometsä, playground Nurkka, and a sports hall that will be shared by the school and Puistola Sports Park.

Groundwork will begin in September 2025, and the building is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2027.

The school is designed for 650 pupils, and the daycare and preschool facilities will serve around 220 children. In addition, the playground will have space for 50 to 70 children. The sports facilities in the building will offer larger and more versatile spaces for hobbies to local residents – also for evening use.

– The new building will be built in a central location in Puistola. In addition to high-quality construction and staying on schedule, it is important that the nearby Puistola Sports Park and the surrounding neighborhood can continue their activities without disruptions during the project.

Fira has recent experience in carrying out projects in demanding locations, as well as managing collaborative school and daycare construction projects. I believe that with Fira, the project can be completed according to the goals, taking into account above all the needs and activities of users and stakeholders, says Teemu Metsälä, Project Director at the City of Helsinki Urban Environment Division.

Special attention will be paid to air quality

The building will be heated with geothermal energy. The ventilation system will be a mechanical supply and exhaust system with heat recovery. The cooling system will include supply air cooling. The cleanliness class for ventilation work will be P1.

Fira’s construction of learning environments is top-level in the industry. This is the third school project in a row for the same site team. I promise that Puistola will receive a high-quality, healthy new comprehensive school, daycare center, playground, and sports hall, says Panu Pohjola, Director of Commercial Construction at Fira.

The project will be carried out as a construction management contract with a target and maximum price.
