Fira has once again received a school project from Helsinki
Earlier this year Hemsö and the City of Helsinki signed a 20-year lease agreement for a new school and daycare centre to be built in northern Pasila. Hemsö is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of the site, having won the City of Helsinki’s competitive tender. Fira will act as the main contractor for the project.
Fira has supported Hemsö with design management since the tender phase. In close collaboration with all parties involved, practical solutions have been developed to ensure that the new school in northern Pasila will serve the local community effectively.
– Fira’s way of working aligns well with Hemsö’s values. We want to be a responsible developer, and part of that is understanding the expectations of the people who will use the buildings. We’ve had a great and meaningful collaboration from the start of the tender process, and together with a diverse team, we’ve found solutions that will make everyday life at the new school run smoothly. The building itself will be delivered with a strong focus on sustainability and environmental aspects, says Hemsö’s Project Manager Kirsi Viheriäranta.
The building in Postipuisto is scheduled to be completed by the start of the autumn term in 2027. The school and daycare centre will have space for a total of 850 children—200 in daycare and 650 in primary school. The three-storey building will have a total floor area of approximately 7,200 m². In addition to serving children, the facilities will also be available for community use by residents of northern and western Pasila.
The building, which will meet energy class A standards, will use geothermal heating, air-to-water heat pumps, and solar panels. The project also aims to achieve a BREEAM Excellent environmental certification.
– The school in northern Pasila is an important and exciting project. We’ve had excellent collaboration with Hemsö for a long time. Fira has strong experience in building learning environments, both in new construction and renovation projects, says Panu Pohjola, Business Director, Commercial Construction at Fira.
