In the renovation project for the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region (Hoas), a significant amount of prefabricated components are being made directly on-site. The award was granted by Lean Construction Institute Finland during the Lean Days event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prefabricated components have been developed and used in Fira\u2019s housing renovation projects for several years. Their use has steadily improved from one project to the next, but in the case of Hoas\u2019s Siltakuja 2 renovation, a major leap forward was made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award was given to Fira\u2019s Production Train 4, the site team currently working at Siltakuja 2. According to the jury, the initiative is concrete and represents forward-thinking in the construction industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prefabricated components are usually produced outside the construction site. Fira\u2019s Housing Renovation team, Production Train 4, took a new step by creating the EVVK \u2013 a prefabrication workshop directly at the site. The team sets up suitable spaces for prefabrication either inside the building or in a separate container. This improves logistics and flow, reduces the need for temporary storage, and allows quick responses to changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-As the client, we are extremely happy and proud that Fira\u2019s strong efforts to promote industrial construction at the Siltakuja project have been recognized with this award. It\u2019s been a great experience to be part of the project and share the passion for developing the industry. We\u2019ve had a unique opportunity to take steps forward together. -The site\u2019s development-minded team has worked on prefabrication and methods from the ground up. Managing the delivery chain of prefabricated components allows fast reactions to changes, in the spirit of continuous improvement. Valuable input has come from the installers themselves. Sharing common views and visions with the client creates a strong foundation for both execution and development, says Iiro Sn\u00e4kin<\/strong>, Project Manager at Fira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rotating award, now given twice, will stay in Fira\u2019s trophy cabinet for another year. Fira won the first-ever award in 2024 for the pipe renovation project at Liusketie 2. The company has worked systematically to improve productivity, and flow speed in housing renovation projects has increased by over 50% in the past four years \u2013 about 15% per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lean Construction Act competition aims to highlight lean construction and the people driving it forward. It showcases outstanding leadership and pioneering use of lean methods and management in Finnish companies and organizations in the real estate and construction sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
